Zayed Award for Human Fraternity Presented to Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev in Abu Dhabi
In Abu Dhabi, the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity was presented to Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, and Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The two leaders received the award for consistently advancing the agenda of establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and for ensuring cooperation and stability in the region. The awards were presented by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.
According to Armenpress, during the official ceremony, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted in his speech that what is happening today would have seemed unbelievable for many years. The Prime Minister said: “The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have come together to celebrate the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, to share the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity.
Over the past 40 years, you would never have seen the words ‘peace,’ ‘Armenia,’ and ‘Azerbaijan’ together. And even if they were pronounced together, it would have sounded unbelievable. That is why what happened in 2025 and what is happening today is truly incredible.”
According to him, accepting this award confirms that the chapter of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been closed; otherwise, it would have been meaningless for both sides to come together and accept this high recognition.
For his part, Ilham Aliyev noted that Armenia and Azerbaijan had been at war for more than three decades and are now learning to live in peace. Emphasizing that this example could serve as guidance for other countries involved in war, the President of Azerbaijan said: “We are learning to live in peace. It is a special feeling. Since gaining independence, we have never lived in peace.”
The award ceremony was followed by a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Secretary-General of the Award as part of his working visit to Abu Dhabi.
